The 2nd Annual Meeting of SoCal X1/9 took place in Santa Clarita on March 26th, 2006. The hosts of this year’s event were Tony and Sharon Natoli. Special guest: Steve Hoelsher, who performed the Transmission Overhaul Workshop to those who were interested in rebuilding their gearboxes. The first day was a “closed” session for those who needed the time to focus on having their transmission overhauled while the second day was a “general session” for all to attend, which included lunch, chatter and “joyrides” in Alex Kovatch’s race car.

In honor of his support of the X1/9 community, Tony was presented with gifts made possible from small contributions by X1/9 Enthusiasts from all over the world. It was a special day amongst friends within the X1/9 communitiy. In honor of his support of the X1/9 community, Tony was presented with gifts made possible from small contributions by X1/9 Enthusiasts from all over the world. Time to paint

Having sorted through most of the really nagging mechanical areas, I decided the time had come to have the car painted.

I had the entire car repainted to match the lower portion of the original paint. No more 2-tone. I had the shop refer to the paint code located on the rear trunk lid, 872IF – Polar Ice Blue Metalic. Pior to bringing it to the shop, I had completely stripped it of all plastic pieces, door panels and anything else I wanted to work during the time the car would be away at the shop. Doing this saved me some money and helped to ensure no overspray onto these areas. Also, I requested from the shop manager that they call me in between each phase of their paint process so that I may inspect their work prior to proceeding to the next phase. A tip ($) to the prep guys made the extra trips worthwhile and they took extra special care while painting my car.

Prior to painting, I had a new custom exhaust installed. It is a MagnaFlow unit with a free-flow catalytic converter and Ansa exhaust tip. This was installed by Z Performance in Corona. This setup ran me just over $400. It’s not too obnoxious and has a nice solid tone to it.
