Power Window Fixed

No more sippy cup holding up the driver side window. I left the power window motor with Tony who went through it and cleaned up. He restored is to working condition again. The luge housing the motor cable is pretty well toasted, but usable. I successfully assembled the thing back together and now have an operating window.

The assembly includes the following parts:

  • Motor
  • Motor cable
  • The track which the motor cable follows
  • Switch

Notice this is a headlight switch that has been adapted to work as a window switch!

But of course, it really wasn’t all that simple. There are a few minor adjustments that can be made within the assembly, but not much. While the cable runs free, the track seems to guide it awkwardly – although the window operates. I got it to a point where it runs ok, but not optimal. Time to move on a bit.

Giant Booty!

Met up with Tony Natoli and took a stroll through the FIAT “ecology” lot in Newhall. Surprisingly, there was still quite a bit of valuable things to be had. Stuff I’m almost even afraid to mention…

Well, here’s my stash:

  • 70A alternator. I will likely use this for my universal A/C unit conversion – It is untested; will probably require a rebuild
  • Ignition Control Unit
  • An FI computer
  • A gas filler neck – to fix the leaking problem on a fill up
  • Door handle and heater control knobs…

About $500 worth of parts obtained for ??? (cheap). Happy camper.

Wheel Update

Looks like I was wrong about my wheels. Nothing wrong there…the ring around the hole is not where a washer was previously located, but scratching from tightening with a lug wrench. Also, because the bolts are tapered to match the hole, the design is intentional, even it the head of the bolt does not completely cover the hole. Ok, now this makes complete sense…..

Wheel Problem?

Hmmm….I was inspecting my wheels, just to see what I really have, and upon removing the hub cover I noticed that I may not have the correct lug bolts in there. I’m no wheel expert (hub-centric, lug centric, offset, etc…) but this definitely does not look right. I’d like to see if I can swap these anyway, as I would like a more “aggressive-looking” wheel. Going to post up on XANA to see if there is any interest…

A Quick Fix

Well say what you will, but this is doing the job for now. I decided that I can no longer stand driving around with my front hood duct-taped shut. I have employed the following quick fix until either it breaks or until I have enough time and patience to replace the wire correctly. For now, my hood is tightly secured and no more flapping.
